Silverback Golf Umbrella

This is our Silverback UV Protection Golf Umbrella, one of our Silverback range of special Ultra Violet (UV) protective sun umbrellas, designed and exclusively available from Rob McAlister Ltd. This is a large silver UV golfing umbrella, a manually opening windproof golf umbrella – metallic silver on the outside to block direct ultraviolet and a black underside to absorb (not reflect) indirect UV.

There are many umbrellas on the market with a silver UV protective inner canopy surface – indeed we sell them ourselves. The lining does significantly reduce the amount of UV getting through the canopy. One slight drawback of this approach however is that UV can sometimes be reflected up from the ground (depending on the surface) and then again from the reflective interior of the umbrella onto the head and face. The parabolic shape of the umbrella can even concentrate those reflected UV rays.

To combat this we have turned the conventional anti-UV umbrella design on its head so that the silver is on the outside and the black on the inside. This maintains the benefit of filtering out much of the UV and reflecting it away from the outer canopy. However, by having a black interior, we are able to stop the sun’s harmful rays from being focused on the user’s head and face.

The Silverback Golf sun umbrella is manual opening, has a large canopy (some 51″ wide), and is approximately 40″ from handle to tip with a strong, lightweight fibreglass stem and ribs. The Silverback UV Protective Golf Umbrella weighs 620g.
